Since I work every day (yesterday was 14 hours straight), I haven't had time to post, write, or really think. Here are some pictures in the meantime.

19 July Photos

My "It's 7am, 50°F in July and I haven't found coffee yet" face, followed by Krakow. For whatever reason, the previous post wouldn't publish with photos.

19 July

THE SUN RISES SO EARLY HERE.

It was around 6am and I was fully awake by the good graces of Mother Nature.  I thought about going back to sleep, but there was no way with that much light. I got up and was left to my own devices until 930am for training (which I had thought was early!) Three and a half hours suddenly felt super long.

First things first, I had to find my magic beans. I needed my kawa (coffee) to raise me from the dead and reinstate my wits if I was going to hunt for food. I cross checked the map of food places and found my target. Just down the street was the student cafe which would accept my World Youth Day play money. Off I went!

It's July and it's 50-something°F out there. When I packed, I packed all long sleeves and one sweater meant for night time (because it's only cold at night, right?) Wrong.

Anyway, the discomfort was mild as I walked down in search of coffee. Finally having found it, I found the café closed. They opened at 9am (like normal people), so I was left wondering where to go at 7am. Fortunately, I passed a small shop and bought a pastry for 1.50 złoty (so basically a little more than a quarter) returning to my caveman roots pointing at bread and saying "To. To? Proszę?" (This. This? Please?", or at least I think so.) By this time, I gave up on cheap coffee and overpaid for the convenience of the coffee at the tent out front (5 złoty. More than $1 for coffee? Absurd)

Sated by my magic beans and bread, I returned for wifi to find out that there was a breakfast station downstairs serving volunteers breakfast.

For free.

AMANECE TAN TEMPRANO AQUI

No.

To?

Gratis.

18 July

What a day. After quite a while, I finally made it to Krakow. I think I slept only an hour throughout the whole trip. When I finally did arrive, I managed to find my things and get directions to a bus which would take me to my homestay. I had been told to take the bus to the train station, where I would get new directions. Halfway through the ride, I thought to check GoogleMaps to realize that the train station is actually past my homestay.

Whatever, the guy who told me was a local. I arrive at the station only to be told I need to catch a bus south to find my stop. Lovely.

I lug my luggage back on a bus, get off at my stop and walk what I thought was a short distance (was actually not) down the street to the homestay. When I finally manage to check in (was redirected twice), I went to my room down the stairs, to be told I'm actually upstairs (good thing I work out).  All I did was dropoff my things to promptly find a beer. I mean, food.

I finally ate my meal, took my much needed shower (yay communal showers!) and went straight to sleep.

Y comida.

Finalmente comí, me bañé (wuju duchas compartidas) y directita a la cama.
