Day two in
Italy. We got up early and took a three
hour bus ride to Assisi. Before getting
there and admiring the town, I couldn't help but simply admire the countryside. It's so beautiful. I had wanted to take pictures of the
countryside, but the glass on the bus prevented it. Oh well.
I'll just have to go back.

We started at St.
Clare's Basilica and did a tour from the basement to the top. Leaving there, we walked through the town
until we reached St. Francis Basilica.
After seeing the crypt, we were free for the day, so instead of buying
cheap tourist pizza, I joined my mother at a restaurant we found. It was pretty good, but I think the best part
of the meal was that I spoke entirely in Italian to the waitress and there were
no critical mistakes made. Following the
meal, we had shopping free time, so I bought just a few things. I had made the plan to hold on to my money
and wait until Madrid to really start thinking about buying expensive
things. We would be there longer, and I
really wanted a beautiful fan.
We went straight to
the hotel in Rome after Assisi and were unfortunately expected to stay
there. I didn't fly across an ocean to
be locked in a hotel in Rome. I got
special permissions and took off with two seminarians, a fellow girl and a
chaperone to do my favorite thing: strolling around late at night and night
photography. We took a taxi downtown and
just walked (MY FAVORITE THING). In
short, we:- Had a rollercoaster cab ride that resulted in several angry Italians and us getting flipped off after nearly running over pedestrians (hence the obscene hand gestures)
- saw the Trevi Fountain (it's sooooo beautiful at night) and I tossed in my 1E which is supposed to increase my chances of coming back to Rome
- Got lost trying to find the Pantheon
- Found the Pantheon
- Had gelato
- Got lost finding a cab
- Stole a cab from someone who probably needed it more than we did. Oops.
My gelato experience
was lovely. We had it at Della Palma
Gelato di Roma (one of the seminarians' favorite places). There were SO MANY flavors. I couldn't pick among all of them, so I
picked one and kindly asked the gentleman to give me the other three of his
favorite flavors. I ended up having
tiramisu (my pick), strawberry, mars and hazelnut.

Mi
segundo día en Italia! Nos levantamos
temprano y manejamos tres horas a Asís.
sabores. No pude decidir, entonces elegí
avellana
