Logroño-Ventosa

I am definitely warming up to the sandals. Today, I felt I could walk all the way to Nájera as originally planned, but we stopped just before to have a rest anyway before pushing ourselves.

I was everyone's favorite pilgrim because at 5:57am sharp, my alarm went off with The Circle of Life. We left much earlier than we have been and were out on the street a little after seven. Though still nervous to walk, we had our sandals, and before we knew it, we walked 13k in about three hours- a 33% improvement, according to my dad. We stopped in Navarrette for breakfast and coffee and on the way out, found that the church was open and stepped inside.

Maybe it's just me. But every time we stop or stay in a small town, I can't imagine how anyone could live there. I figured the church would be modest and towns-y.

I was so wrong. It was beautiful. The altar was made of gold (probably stolen from Mexico) and it seemed they were setting up for a wedding. Something I've noticed in big churches is that they keep the lights off and for one euro, you can illuminate the altar for about ten minutes. Before we left, the organist started practicing. He started a run, and on the most beautiful chord, the lights went up, lighting the altar. It was breathtaking.
