They're here. Pilgrims are here. After a decent night of sleep, I woke up to the sound of girls' alarms going off in five to ten minute intervals and cheering pilgrims screaming in the street outside. At four am.
Work went well though, it wasn't as rough as I had anticipated and I even got interviewed! I was video interviewed by Brazilian press and later, I found out that a French volunteer recommended me to do a voice recording for a French group. I was surprised that she recommended me, but apparently she told then I speak French well. She had already done one (answering my unasked question of, "why don't you ask the French girl??"), and they needed another voice.
The Pope arrived today! I didn't make it downtown to wait on the street, but I watched it all in a tv in a restaurant. As the plane got ready to open, you could feel every Brazilian in the place holding their breath. Once Pope Francis emerged, everyone applauded and some cried. It was beautiful.
Han llegado. Los peregrinos han llegado. Después de una noche adecuada en términos de dormir, amanecí al sonido de las alarmas de las chicas sonando en periodos de cada cinco o diez minutos y el sonido de peregrinos gritando por la calle. A las cuatro de la mañana.
El trabajo estuvo bien, y no era tan lleno como esperaba y hasta que fui entrevistada! Me entrevistaron por video una prensa brasileña, y después, una voluntaria francesa me había recomendado para hacer una grabación de voz en francés. Me sorprendió que me recomendó, pero sale que la francesa les dijo que yo hablaba bien. Ella ya había hecho una (que respondió a mi pregunta mental de, «¿¿y porqué no le piden a la francesa??»), y necesitaban otra.
¡El Papa llegó hoy! No llegué al centro para la bienvenida por las calles, pero lo vi todo por televisión en un restaurante. Mientras el avión estuvo a punto de abrir, se podía sentir cada brasileño parar de respirar. El momento que salió del avión, todos aplaudieron y algunos lloraron. Era hermoso.
