Day 2 / Segundo día

Today was a busy day, despite also being the relaxing one.

We started off going to Union Buildings, where they recently erected a statue for Mandela. The lighting did not favor us, but there are pictures anyway.

When we arrived, I was confused to see Chilean flags everywhere, but it turns out Chile's president is stopping by for a visit.

Following Union Buildings, we went to the US Embassy for lunch and to get cash. My aunt introduced me to several of their friends from all over who work for the US in Pretoria.

We picked up the baby and took him to a swimming class, which he calls, "kick kick kick".

A quick tour of the Voortrekker Monument and we were done! The monument memorializes the European settlers who cam to South Africa centuries ago. It was an interesting perspective, because being here for so long, South Africa is, in essence, their land, knowing no other place to call home. We'll see the other perspective soon.
